Tyler Mechanical was founded in 1968 by Nelson W. Tyler Sr. At the age of twenty-six, Nelson began operating his new business from the basement in his Rockville, Maryland home. During these first few years, he wore many hats including estimating, purchasing, project management, field supervision, marketing, finance, collections, and husband and father to a wife and three young sons. Optimism, faith, courage and determination represented the bulk of his assets.

TMC’s early focus was on the construction of public facilities throughout the Washington metropolitan area. As word spread about the quality construction and attention to detail that Nelson W. Tyler, Sr. and his early team members provided, opportunities to work on some of the largest projects in the DC Metropolitan Area helped further build TMC’s reputation.

A few of Nelson’s early team members included his sons, Nelson Jr., Chad, and Greg who at a very early age learned the value of a hard day’s work. It was these early days of working in the trenches that has enabled these boys to build on their father’s success. TMC continues to grow and prosper under the leadership of Nelson W. Tyler, II and Greg Tyler as a specialist in bio tech, medical, IT, and office HVAC/mechanical plumbing construction. In addition, Chad Tyler has expanded the Tyler’s successes to include Tyler-Donegan Real Estate, a full-service real estate company serving both the commercial and residential markets.

Like most successful people and organizations, family, co-workers, friends, business associates and peers have played an important part, assisting in many ways to accomplish the development from a two-member mechanical contracting team, in 1968, to one which provided opportunity for over eighty employees in 1988 and has continued to grow into a company of over 240 strong today.
